Energy Discovery Centre family week.
Why does your hair stand on end when you are in a strong electric field? How does lightning happen, how can I catch it in a photo? Science director Aare Baumer talks and makes experiments in energy, electricity and lightning at the Energy Discovery Centre’s (Energia avastuskeskus) family week until Saturday, October 31. On Friday the experiments are made each full hour together with an introduction of the video microscope (11 am – 4 pm), on Saturday you can make a trip with a two-wheel electric vehicle at 12.30 pm, 13.30 pm, 14.30, 15.30 and 16.30.
And talking of lightning: although summer and the lightning period is past, the Energy Discovery Centre and the journal Loodusesõber open a competition “Catch the lightning” – with the aim to catch everything to do with lighting - its destructive doings as well as the lightning itself – in photos, on telephone or video. There is plenty of time to do this: a whole year. An educational film about lightning will be made later from the collected material, with the permission of the authors.
