"Fire and sun hearths at Vabaduse väljak, Tallinn"

On the evening of December 20, one day before the sun enters its winter home at the winter solstice, a spark will be lit in the tepee on Vabaduse Väljak, with a traditional fire bow drill. The spark flies from the fire drill into a soft nest of bulrush seed hairs, and there quickly grows into a fire in the heart of the tepee.
The warm, fiery hearths in the Indian and Sami tepees and the Asian yurt will be there until December 27, when the sun already has been moving, step by step, towards it summer home for three days. During these days everybody is welcome to visit the houses and yurts, to find exciting things to make with your own hands, storytelling, singing, dancing, playing instruments.
So we will unite old wisdom with today’s city life, and carry with us into our doings in the new year the special feeling from our ancestors for the sun that gives us all strength.
