For nature friends in South Estonia

Families committed to environment and nature are invited to a nature camp:
Tartu Environmental Education Centre, in cooperation with partners in the „Back to Nature” project announces a competition to find participants for an international nature camp. The nature camp will take place on February 12 to 14, 2010, in the beautiful environment of South Estonia. Up to 8 Estonian families and up to 8 Latvian families can attend the camp.
 
The aims of the family camp are to establish contacts with our neighbours, to promote environmentally-friendly and sustainable lifestyles and to show the beautiful Estonian nature and our national traditions.
In the wintry landscape we will learn about animal tracks, about the traditional handicrafts and games of our countries and many more enjoyable and interesting things. The family camp is free of charge for the participants. Transport from the county centre to the camp site and back is arranged as well as housing and catering including three meals a day.
Conditions for participating:
  • in the competition mothers or fathers (or grandparents) with a child (or children), aged 8 – 12, who attends the Tartu, Valga, Võru or Põlva city or county schools can take part;
  • one member of the family at the camp should have sufficient knowledge of English for everyday communication, since part of the activities of the camp will be conducted in English
  • for the competition the parent must submit an essay on the theme "Why is communication with nature important to our family”, length up to one A4 page. The essay must be illustrated by the child (children). The illustration (illustrations) should be submitted separately on A4 size sheets (free choice of technique)
  • the essay with supplement/s must be sent on January 10, 2010, at the latest, to the address below:

A committee will select the best works and inform the authors of participation in the camp.
The competition is arranged within the framework of the Estonian-Latvian cooperative project “Back to nature”, supported by the European Regional Development Fund (within the Estonian-Latvian Programme), and the Environmental Investment Centre.
