Partridges looking for food.
Life isn’t easy for partridges in very thick snow: food has to be dug out from under the snow. But in a hard frost the snow is of course also a nice protective coat. The photo here shows tracks of the birds’ movements but in a snowstorm they usually sit almost motionless in the snow, only the brick red tops of their heads showing. They try to find shelter near hedges to get some more protection.
Partridges aren’t found in forests but rather in meadows and weedy fields.
