That day I was on my way to Haanja. Starting off from snowless Tallinn, the trip seemed to go across several latitudes. The further south I came, the more sun and frost and snow seemed to be switched on. My eyes hurt. Near Kanepi I realised that the cloud frontier looming before me would soon cover the sky. I left my car, and the surrounding fields were soon filled with footprints.
Although I usually prefer to be in places, and to photograph places where no roads go, this day with its road-side expanses of snow was different. One of those times when nature makes you stop, to walk away from the road, to be offered, for a moment in time, something special and rare.
The moments were caught with camera Canon 1Ds mkII and objective lens Canon 70-200 f2,8L
Chairman of the jury Rein Maran:
What is nature photo?
The best guide to discovering nature.
The best way to remember one’s joy of discovery in a creative way.
The best way to feed one’s inner balance and strength, maybe even to rediscover oneself.
What is the Nature Year Photo Competition?
The best way to share the joy of discovery and the discoveries with likeminded, and with many other wonderful people.
Jaak Johanson sent the song Lumevalguses (In snow light) to all nature photo friends for listening:
This Lumepilt Lumevalguses (Snow image in snow light) by Paul-Eerik Rummo brings to mind the great winters of the 60ies in my boyhood, like the winter of this year "when I was a child no more ...".
The song can be downloaded here.
Start of the photo contest Nature Year Photo 2010
Looduse Omnibuss and Nordea Bank invite all photo friends – grown-up, young people and children – to take part in the photo contest “Nature Year Photo 2010”. The hunt for the Dancing Wolves begins too. This year’s contest is dedicated to the jubileum year "Eesti looduskaitse 100 (Estonian Environmental Protection 100)“.

Submitting photos to the contest Nature Year Photo 2010 (Looduse Aasta Foto 2010)
Starting this year, photos can only be submitted by way of Internet, using the special upload feature. The reason for this is simple. The number of participants in the contest has grown. If you do not have suitable access to Internet on your own, we encourage you to find help from friends and acquaintances.
