The weekend brought beautiful winter weather, so all who have their observations of grey shrikes still stored somewhere on the margin of a paper or on the "hard disk” of your memory might use some moments to forward the observations to the www.eoy.ee/ogijad web page. It only takes a few seconds.
A simple web chart was also created this weekend, and it will be updated once or twice a week. The more observations we all collect, the more substantial the summary will be that the Bird of the year working group will bring to you at the end of the year.
Already a noticeable number of observations have been made of grey shrikes near bird feeders on the lookout for birds; grey shrikes also watch reed beds to prey on blue tits and other smaller passerines. Obviously mice are few, and they aren’t easy to catch in the thick snow, so small birds are a useful substitute. Old people called shrikes "tit hawks” with good reason.

Good luck with shrike searching!

Great grey shrike.
