Frost in ash crown.
The ash is easy to recognise in the thick snow and frost. Where the typical lines of other, thin-branched trees seem to be lost in the snow, the sturdy branches of the ash catch the eye. The branches are distinctive: last year’s shoots are always upwards-growing, and they are finger-thick. On some ashes the fruits that have not yet dropped can also be seen. The fruits remind a little of those of the maple, but they are smaller and sit together in tufts on the branches.
