To the forest in deep snow

To get out on the forest paths now and discover all the winter beauty is really good advice, because the snowy forest is unique. The deep snow hasn’t become too heavy yet for wading through: quite pleasant and soft still. Since there haven’t been any thaws, you don’t have to cut through ice crusts and only partly carrying snow layers, otherwise a nuisance outside cleared paths. To wade in the deep snow for some kilometres is good: five kilometres is maybe too much, but a couple surely. And a strong recommendation is to make one’s own path in deep snow; when you follow someone else’s footsteps you have so much to do with fitting your boots into the right track, so you won’t even see the surrounding beauty. It is useful too to walk “on your toes” so that your foot will go as deep as it can at once. Stepping with the whole sole, there will be layers in the snow that carry at first but, with your full weight on them, give. Such walking and suddenly sinking through every now and then is tiring.
