A little about the doings of the tawny owl couple Klaara and Klaus: there are four eggs in the nest and incubating proceeds. Female owl Klaara goes out to stretch her limbs, stiff from lying in the nest, when the evening dusk falls; the pause usually lasts less than ten minutes. Only the female owl incubates the eggs. Male bird Klaus’ duty is to see to the food. It isn’t a good mouse year, but it seems that our couple has managed up to now.
The eggs are usually laid at intervals of one or two days. The first egg was in the nest on April 6. The female bird starts incubating at once, and incubation generally lasts 28 days. So we can calculate when the hatching of the first owlet may be expected.
