Common lizard.
Common lizard | Arusisalik | Lacerta vivipara |
The common lizard is often seen near country houses: on stacks of boards, woodpiles or stones, warming itself in the sun. It lives in somewhat humid environments and so it can be seen on the planks of hiking trails. When there seems to be danger it flees quickly.
They appeared out of their winter hiding holes with the disappearance of the last snow patches and during some weeks now search for mates.
A few words about the exterior: body length about 15 centimetres, the pattern on the back consists of a narrow stripe in the middle and broader bands on the sides. Individuals sunbathing on a board sometimes let themselves be studied at close quarters. The underbody of the female is cream-coloured, in various shades, and that of the male brick red: an observer is sure to notice that.
