Vooremaa bicycle tour: last day for preregistration

At least four nesting white stork pairs can be seen on the Vooremaa trip.
We cycled the route on bikes with the organizers on Saturday to check the path and the overall impression was very satifactory: in most places the ground had dried up and there was little mud. At the Linnutaja linnamägi (hill fort) there has to be a detour from the original route but all the Vooremaa drumlin ridge tops were already nicely dry and so was the grass surrounding the ruins of the ancient fortress at Laiuse – the planned camp site. The April sun had melted the snow and the spring weather won’t stay cold: May is already here, spring can’t slip away. Views from the drumlins opened to a faintly pale green foreground fading to blue in the distance.
Between the fields of hepaticas and wood anemones, the golden saxifrage that occurred in quite large patches delighted observers, as well as the more discrete lungwort. And – particularly important – some bird cherries cautiously put forth their flowers. Spring is late, but no bicycle trip of the Greens has been without bird cherry flowers and it looks as if this year won’t be an exception either.
On Monday it is still possible to preregister at a favourable price to the trip, "How are you, Vooremaa”: all needed materials – wristbands, food checks and travel maps – can be fetched until 6 pm on Monday evening at the editorial offices of the nature journals in Tallinn or in Tartu. Payments can be transferred until the end of the day. In that case the materials (maps etc) will be available at the start of the trip, in Palamuse.
