Woolly mammoths once roamed over vast areas of Eurasia and North America. The calls of these Ice Age giants could be heard in Estonia too. Here, near the town of Puurmanni, one of the youngest mammoth finds in Europe came to light.
How big was the skull of this, the largest animal known to have inhabited Estonia? How are mammoths related to the elephants of today? What was their environment like, and why did they become extinct? "Mammoth Was Here" answers these questions, portraying one of the best known, yet most mysterious prehistoric animals in the world.

The extensive exhibition of teeth, tusks and bones comes from the collections of the Estonian Museum of Natural History and the University of Tartu Natural History Museum. The exhibition is one of the events of the International Year of Biodiversity.
