Caspian tern fishing

Caspian tern with pike.

Caspian tern Räusktiir e. räusk  Sterna Caspia

The Caspian tern is nearly gull-sized, even the image in flight is similar to a gull’s and it is the largest tern species in the world.

The large head and black top of the head catch the eye; to that a strong neck and a mighty red beak like a weapon, water grey coat and a short tail. The only red-mouthed and black-legged one of our terns. This rather rare species is mostly seen at the coast and on the islands. Courting display includes offering fish to the female bird, to catch her attention.
