  Green hairstreak

 Rohetiib

A quite common butterfly in Estonia, with a one-inch wing span. Encountered at forest fringes and road verges; always where there are bushes and shrubs. The upper sides of the wings are a uniform brown, but what we notice is the green colour  of the underside. With its wings in the closed resting position the green hairstreak looks like a small leaf, and blends perfectly into nature.

In Leidissoo bog in Läänemaa in western Estonia there are great numbers of this butterfly.
