Bird's-eye primrose.
Bird’s-eye primroses prefer calcareous soils and humid meadows; they can be found nearly anywhere in Estonia, but on the coast and the islands some of the places where they grow are stunningly beautiful. Air temperatures are lower on the coast because of the cold sea water and early summer is a bit behind the mainland, but the bird’s-eye primroses are at their most beautiful now.
The flowers as well as the undersides of the leaves are covered by a whitish-yellow powdery layer. The smell of the bird’s-eye primrose is loved by some. For others it reminds of horse urine ...
