Mating black-veined whites on fern..
The black-veined whites can be seen in places rich in mid-summer flowers. It is an eye-catching and large and easily recognised species. Even the body shape is very characteristic; the typical wing markings (script) are there on the upper as well as the underside of the wings. At water puddles where the butterflies go to drink, tens of them may gather: good places to study them.
To see the black-veined whites has been said to foretell good luck as well as troubles. The lessening use of insecticides has increased the number of these butterflies in places – so it should be good luck.
