At this time rose chafers feed on the flowers and leaves of plants. Their looks are eyecatching and the length of this beetle with the gold-shimmering green, somewhat flattened back is a couple of centimetres. The feelers end in small clubs, and the strong legs are equipped with spurs. In spite of their odd shape they are very good flyers; this can not only be seen but also heard.
Two similar-looking species are the flower chafer (Potosia cuprea) and the marbled rose chafer (Liocola lugubris)
Beetles feeding on flowers are quite colourful as a rule; of course they do damage but they aren’t very numerous and so the damage is insignificant. They occur in all Estonia and move around looking for flowering plants even in August.
