The bats in the Pipistrellus genus are the smallest Chirodoptera members in Europe. They weigh around 3 – 10 grammes and the wing span reaches only up to 250 mm. In Estonia they mainly live in parks and similar stands of trees, preferably with water nearby. For refuge the pipistrelle bats often use hollows in houses and trees.
The species above have very characteristic short, triangular ears with rounded tips and blunt-shaped tragus. Differentiating them from each other is quite complicated and needs careful attention to details.
