The dewberry and its habitats was introduced yesterday. The blackberry is another shrub with similar fruits, growing with long trailing stems. In Estonia it is only found locally – between Laulasmaa and Suurup one location is still preserved and also near Põlva. It grows at road, field and forest verges and at ditches.

The fruits of the blackberry, aggregate drupelets, are still brownish red; when they are ripe at the end of August they will be brownish-black and glossy. Presently the berries are still somewhat bitter and sour, but they will be edible in a few weeks. The seeds are large. Arne’s photo shows the shape of the leaves nicely.
