Arne’s photo shows a male butterfly with its yellow upper wing sides; the female butterflies are whitish tinged with green. The typical sharp points on the fore and hind wings show up clearly, also the paler wing veins and the red-brown spots on the wings. All is nicely shown.

From July onwards this summer’s imagos are in flight. The same individuals go for wintering in the beginning of autumn, and make us happy when they emerge  in early spring and promise a "golden summer“. The brimstone imagos are really long-lived: investigations have shown them to become up to 13 months old, but this depends on their life style. The butterflies rest in summer. After a couple of days of active life and feeding they take a time-out for some days or weeks. Their life cycle proceeds with diapauses; this is of course also influenced by the weather.
