The awards ceremony was on Saturday and we managed to see nearly all prizewinning works. The selection of films for the festival was well done and interesting, the organisers had definitely made a serious effort and the development of the festival is clearly noticeable.
The Grand Prix of the festival this year went to Finland, to the film “Frontiers of Life , Part 1: Oil on the Waves”, director Petteri Saario (shown with the prize and his wife and producer Tiina in the photo above). It is a film made for TV (customer:YLE, the Finnish national broadcasting company), about nature and inhabitants around the Gulf of Finland. In the beginning of the film the experienced documentary film maker Petteri asks whether he has anything to say to the audience – YES, he has. Talking to Hendrik Relve (who was a member of the international jury this year) later after the festival it also became clear that the judges had been unanimous in their decision.
As last year, we hope to see the winning works soon, at the Nature Nights of Looduse Omnibuss. And the director of the festival, Tiit Mesila, will surely bring interesting works to be seen in TV.
