Young stone enthusiasts visit limestone quarries.
You can’t become a true stone enthusiast only by walking on the beach and putting pebbles in your pocket. A real stone enthusiast always has a rucksack, with many different little (fabric) bags, labels and a ballpoint (to remember where the stones were collected), and a little hammer too.
This Saturday dozens of young stone enthusiasts go along, fully equipped, with our „Limestone Grand Old Man“ or Rein Einasto to get a training in rock investigations. To start with to the old Mundi limestone quarry with the cave near Paide, then to Põltsamaa Castle, and then to the Kalana strip quarry.
The unique algae, crystal nests, corals and snails must be inspected for the first time in life. But how much can one remember if stones aren’t brought home and there are no notes about what kind of rock it is?
With loose bits of rock it is permitted. We will see later who will have the heaviest backpack, the Limestone kids or our Limestone Grand Old Man
All elementary school children are welcome to the Paepõnnid – Limestone Kids“ group that originally was set up for the Jakob Westholm school, students.
