In autumn all shrubs and trees with berries attract our attention in nature but the Guelder rose is a true beauty. The leaves of the native Guelder rose turn beautifully dark red in autumn; in city parks we can also meet ornamental varieties with yellow leaves.

The taste of the Guelder rose berries – actually drupes, like plums – is unfamiliarly insipid to us, but after some frost bites they become quite edible. The fruits, rich in sugars and Vitamin C, yield an excellent tea with a surprising taste. The fruits contain sugars up to 32%, Vitamins C, P, K, carotene ... There is more Vitamin C in the berries of the Guelder rose than in citrus fruits.
