Telling us that they are there

Great tit in hawthorn
Great tit | Rasvatihane | Parus major |
The knocker on the windowsill on an autumn day is most often a great tit. Clever creature – knows how to tell us that it is time to put up the bird feeder, and to hang up that piece of lard or ball of fat ...
How can this be explained?
When the weather gets colder in autumn, insects hide in all sorts of crevices in buildings. In the structure around windows there are many joints, and these are warm, and excellent hiding places. The great tits, hunting for prey, have to use their beak or sharp claws to knock and scrape to get at the insects, or to make them move: the only chance in the hunt for a savoury beakful.
