Tree sparrows have done well during the last few years, their numbers have increased. Quite often we meet these more brightly coloured guys at the outskirts of cities and in parks; earlier they were more country sparrows. The plumage of both sexes is similar.
The length of the early-winter day has shrunk to merely eight hours and the overnight places must be nicely warmed up until a snow blanket covers all. Occaionally one can observe a feather picked-up in the beak of a busy tree sparrow; if you also are lucky enough to see where the feather is  transported then the winter hiding place is known. Sometimes it is in the summer nest box of the birds.

Surely a person who has made a nest box for the birds will also put up a bird feeder for winter. Interesting – do the birds think on the same lines?
