Late autumn usually ends with a great snowfall and the phenological pre-winter begins. The autumn has been warm, only last week 12 degrees above zero were noted in Tartu, and mushroom fans can still find something to pick in the forest.
The snow cover is usually just temporary, with short periods of cold alternating with thaws and the white blanket can come and melt away repeatedly. Daylight lasts just above 6 hours. But to the start of the astronomical winter there is still more than a month.
