Anas platyrhynchos |
It is as if there were two different kinds of mallards. The cautious birds in nature and the companions to humans in the water bodies in cities and villages. The mallards of the Shnell’s pond in Tallinn have even moved to the Baltic Station market.
The bird in the webcam capture is probably a winterer from the spring-fed Valgejõe river that flows a few kilometres away. In mild winters there are more winterers; often they leave only when the water bodies freeze, but the number staying for winter still reaches about ten thousand birds.
