Tracks of two foxes

   Fox Rebane  Vulpes vulpes

In a few weeks such a row of paired fox tracks will be quite common – the mating season approaches.
There are generations of foxes that have been born in our cities and have no idea of the existence of forests. During this year scientists from the University of Tartu will study the increase in city fox populations. We can contribute by filling out the form below.

According to Urmas Saarma, senior researcher at the  University of Tartu, foxes in the city are no new phenomenon. “In Great Britain they have been noted since the 1930es. In Switzerland the majority of foxes live in cities, quite as for instance  in Oslo, Århus, Stuttgart, to mention only some examples from Europe. In recent years foxes in Estonia too have been observed ever more often in parks or courtyards or in the streets going about their daily doings.
All who have actually observed foxes in the city are asked to tell about it, by answering the questionnaire about urban foxes (answering it takes no more than 5-10 minutes):

The investigation is planned to last for the whole year and a progress report with a summary of the responses to the questionnaire will be published in May.
