For a while there was only one WTE at the feeding ground. But it seems that more birds are arriving by and by from the south.
The white-tailed eagle is our largest raptor, with a wing span of up to 2,5 metres and substantial – weight is up to 5,2 kilos. The upper and underparts of adult birds are dark brown, the head and neck pale brown with dark stripes. The whole tail is white. The beak is pale yellow and the feet yellow. Young birds are wholly dark brown and easily confused with spotted eagles. In November last year a solitary golden eagle and buzzards too appeared in web camera view.
Adult white-tailed eagles are sedentary birds in Estonia, the young rove about quite widely. Mature pine forests, mixed spruce forests or on bog islets are usually chosen for nest sites. The nest is built in the top part of ancient pines or aspens, and a nest that has been in use for decades becomes quite bulky and heavy.
The adults usually start with renovation work on the nest in the second half of February
