Finnish rings.
At the white-tailed eagle feeding ground at Nõva the season started with laying out meat at the end of November. The eagles came one week later. Usually an adult bird stopped at the food, but even more often 2-3 young birds. In the beginning of February a young golden eagle surprised us..
Two rather noticeable eagle gathering periods were in mid-January and the first ten days of March. Tens of white-tailed eagles were at the feeding ground then; roughly a third of them were ringed. Young eagles with coloured rings were mostly from Finland. Birds without rings were evidently from the vast expanses in Russia and demonstrate the good reproduction potential there. It is quite likely that a hundred eagles may have visited the feeding ground. Of other guests a goshawk was a surprise in early spring this year, and of those that did not make themselves noticed in camera view, a boar, probably a young one. There were annoyingly many foxes, also raccoon dogs and martens, and of course ravens.
Until next season!
