A birthday in the nest
Yesterday, 14th of July, was the birthday of the older chick (band number 7015)—he is two months old. But during the last month the middle chick (band 7019) has developed faster than the older chick, and we can predict he'll be the first to fly. We'll soon see if our prediction is accurate.
The birthday morning was great for wing waving and sprucing up the dark feathers. After lunch, it started to rain, followed by a strong downpour—quite a large little pond formed in the nest. And of course ponds are good for fishing. So what if sticks and other nest materials served as the fish!
Donna and Padis went willingly to get the birthday feast—even in the downpour they fed the chicks.
Getting the chicks from the nest to install the backpacks has become complicated.
Today we have the opportunity to report the sex of last year's chicks:
A – female
C – female
F – male
Last year's diary entries from Tony and Donna are available here. Following this year's action is something everyone can do on his own…
