Moon photos
NASA video:
Tonight – March 19th - clouds cover most of our sky and the moon and its particular features stay out of sight for most of us – the full moon is 14% larger and 30% brighter. The moon travels round the Earth in an elliptical orbit and the nearest point of the orbit – the perigee – is only 365,577 kilometres away today, with a full moon. The last time that this situation occurred was in March 1993.
The Estonian Astronomical Society and AS Fotoluks invite all friends of astronomy and photography to an astronomical photo competition “Kuu lähivaates ja maastikul – The moon close up and in the landscape”. The competition is dedicated to the 200 year anniversary of the Tartu Old Observatory, Tartu Tähetorn. Deadline for submitting contributions is June 30th, 2011; the winners will be announced at the XVI meeting of astronomy fans on August 13, 2011, as well as on the competition web page
The competition rules and information about the awards are also on the web page.
The best time for observing and photographing the moon is in March and April. Clear skies and good photo luck!
