Star of Bethlehem
Star of Bethlehem | Kollane kuldtäht |
Light-loving early spring flowerer – a bulbous plant by the way, and not particularly numerous in Estonia. It flowers early, before the trees have leafed, and develops rapidly using the nutrients stored in the bulb. A plant of deciduous and mixed forests and wooded meadows.
The golden yellow, star-shaped and fragile flowers are surrounded by narrow leaves. The colour of the flowers can vary to a greenish nuance. The flowers of the star of Bethlehem are not close together but it grows in large groups that – depending on light conditions – sometimes can turn the forest undergrowth to shining gold.
