Watching bird migration in Virtsu
EOÜ invites all bird friends to Easter birdwatching
Spring is the best time to observe the bird life that goes on around us. The arrival of the migrant birds that has started is a joy to all who care about nature. And so the Estonian Ornithological Society arranges a springtime Easter bird watch every spring, from 1998 onwards.
The aim of the event isn’t scientific but rather to bring out all who are interested in nature to observe birds on the weekend of April 23 – 24.
Taking part in the Easter bird watch is miraculously simple – note during two days the bird species that you have seen and try to estimate, roughly, their numbers. Expert identification skill isn’t required for taking part, it is enough to recognise our most common feathered friends. Neither does the length or place of the bird excursion matter – the birds can be observed in the home garden, or you can take a tour around a larger area between your everyday activities. But you should enter only results about species that you are sure to have identified correctly.
All who are interested in birds can go on the excursions arranged by the Estonian Ornithological Society and by local bird clubs; there will be more precise information about them in Easter week on the EOÜ home page: www.eoy.ee.
The first summaries from the Easter bird watch will be ready a few days later, so please forward results to the Estonian Ornithological Society if possible on the Monday following the Easter bird watch. The final summaries will be ready in the beginning of May.
