The early arrivals have arrived, those who pass through come and go. There are birds everywhere: gardens, parks, forest roadsides, seashores, whereever … and all places are brimming with birdsong. The Estonian Ornithological Society (EOÜ) invites all nature friends to the Easter bird watch and this isn’t a strict scientific event, but simply meant to bring all out in the spring, to see all that is beautiful and quickly changing – and why not make some notes.

The bird watch is in the weekend of April 23. and 24. and taking part is simple: just to note the bird species that you meet and try to estimate their number. The number of species doesn’t matter. Take a look at the survey form below.

First results will come a few days after the watch. When you have filled out the form, please send to the organisers, the Estonian Ornithological Society, electronically on Monday at the latest.

A summary of the whole enterprise will come in the beginning of May.

The EOÜ arranges the Easter bird watch since 1998.

23.-24. April

Thei year the traditional Easter bird watch days are on April 23 and 24. The Estonian Ornithological Society invites all to go out in nature during these days and watch birds. The aim is not high-level science and joining in the bird watch days presupposes very little – simply to find time, during these two days, to observe birds, be it on a one-hour walk or a bird excursion lasting the whole weekend. We ask you to write down all the species that you meet and to estimate, however roughly, how many birds of each species that you saw or heard. You should only note the birds that you know! Please send the summaries of your observations to the coordinator as soon as possible and at the latest in the beginning of May by e-mail at the address tarvo.valker@gmail.com or by mail at the adress EOÜ, pk. 227, 51002 Tartu “Linnuvaatlus”.
