On Saturday a five-member company appeared, all large sows. In addition to the solitary wolf that we have seen in camera view, a wolf pack moves around nearby. It consists of the alpha male and female and a so-called ”auntie” (a female born last year that stays in the family and helps to feed, care for and train this year’s cubs). There are six cubs from this year in the pack – so altogether nine animals. We will hear more in the next few days from Mait if, by whom and how the boars have been harassed.
The boars were on the feeding ground for a short time, part of the food was left and the animals seemed disturbed.

On Thursday and Friday only a young male boar visited the feeding ground. Male wild boars lead a solitary life and become extremely wary (one has to have eyes and ears back and front). The animal avoids the light beam as do its larger relatives. Even wolves keep away from these strong animals with powerful tusks unless it is a wounded individual …

The boar is attentive, at the end of the video it even retreats for a moment from the sound of a passing aircraft – it isn’t fear but conscious and ingrained wariness.
