As already said in the previous article, the marsh tit looks very much like a willow tit.

 

As for the abundance of winterers we can estimate them to be at least a hundred thousand birds. In addition to the sedentary birds in Estonia young birds from the north or east come here and in some years this can increase the winter numbers significantly.

 

Considering the overall number of marsh tits, they should be seen in the webcam quite often. In fact only a few  visit the birdfeeder. They are tits that are very true to their territory and their small area of activity. Some spend their entire life near their hatching area, in a broadleaf or mixed forest. There are some almost everywhere, but in small numbers.

 

For visiting the feeder they wait patiently in a nearby tree or shrub for their turn, or simply that the traffic becomes less dense. They often hide the seeds that they take in store somewhere. Compared to other tits the marsh tits are more herbivorous.

 

The plumage of marsh tits look rather grey. The wings (in winter) are uniformly brownish. They have a large head and a strong neck, on the head a black, slightly glossy “beret” that extends to the eyes and a small "chin beard" of the same colour; the eyes are brown, the little beak black, cheeks white and legs grey-blue. Both sexes have a similar plumage.
