Coral tooth camera news
The Looduskalender team set up a camera at a coral tooth mushroom growing in South Estonia. It will capture how a coral tooth grows and who are busy at and around it.
The first week in the coral tooth’s life has passed leisurely. Every day the fruiting body increases its measurements by about one cm. The last few days even a little more, and on the coral-like fruiting body downward-hanging fringes have begun to show – the spore-carrying parts.
As expected the camera has not captured any animals coming to feast on the coral tooth. Neither are any such known from literature. But in the video we can see bigger and smaller specks gambolling around and on the fungus – tiny insects and mites use the coral tooth for exciting adventure treks. Time will tell if the maturing of the spores will draw anyone to feed on the spores.
