Since the beginning of the year I have visited some ten regular wintering spots of
dippers but haven’t met any yet. So I decided this morning to go to Taevaskoda because they have been there every winter and moreover the
kingfisher usually winters there too. There could be several interesting species for the year list. I went along a quite long stretch of the river but the dipper and the kingfisher stayed unseen today too. Later I heard that the dipper hasn’t been seen in Taevaskoda this winter. It seems that in such a warm winter they have not arrived here yet. At least I saw, as the
93rd bird species on my year list, a
coal tit in Taevaskoda.
On January 14 -15 the mid-winter waterfowl count takes place, more detailed instructions on the EOÜ web page. All bird enthusiasts should count the waterfowl in their home areas and send the data to EOÜ. I myself will go to make a count in the Pedase-Suurupi sector on the northern shore.
