Our constant viewers have started calling the youngish male fish, often visible in videos and easily recognizable from his looks, Albert. He is the one who often stands in camera view with his head downstream and is very active and a quick doer. Once more, a reminder: only female fish dig spawning nests, thus signing to the opposite sex that the spawning period is approaching. Determining the sex of brown trout during the spawning season is not difficult at all; we have written about it earlier.
Last week the evenings both on Thursday and on Friday were empty of fish, and the reason was an otter that was looking for easy prey and was trying to catch spawners. In case of such attacks the trouts disappear for almost half a night and day into hiding in deeper waters and trust returning only at early light if there are no other disturbing factors.
