Yesterday many birdwatchers noted the arrival of buzzards and the buzzard pair also arrived in the nest with the web camera – they are Birds of the Year after all (see the arrival in the video below).

 

In the video from today (Monday) we can see that the pair is not tardy with starting to arrange the nest, immediate action is needed. As with many birds of prey, the female is slightly larger. They can be nicely told apart at the nest: the female with customary brown plumage and the male significantly more gray. We have a long breeding period coming, time enough to describe whom we watch and note the characteristics in their behaviour.

 

Buzzards are visible in early spring: sitting in trees, on poles or hay bales; in fine weather they circle high up in the sky. This spring more than 6 000 buzzard pairs will breed in  Estonia. Useful to know about the more hidden doings of the ”neighbours”.
