 Waiting for spring (25.02.2012 Ristna nina).

 

While there was thick fog at Ristna yesterday and clear weather elsewhere in Hiiumaa, then today the situation was the other way about – all Hiiumaa had thick fog but with a slight sea breeze at Ristna the sun was shining and visibility was very good. As the first bird in Ristna we noticed a lapwing, it should not be a winterer but the first to arrive. In addition long-tailed ducks, mergansers, scoters, swans and loons could also be seen migrating to some smaller extent. Spring is not far away any longer!

Today too 10 blackbirds, 4 starlings, 2 chaffinches and 1 brambling caught the eye at the Kärdla birdfeeders. A sizeable addition of arrivals should soon be added to these few winterers. The few winterers should soon be augmented with a sizeable contingent of arrivals.
