The photo program of the Matsalu International Nature Film festival this year largely focuses on Matsalu themes.

And there is reason for this since the roots of the Matsalu National park reach back 55 years. To celebrate this roundish number of years the Matsalu day will be celebrated in the visitors centre of the park in Penijõe Manor on Friday, September 14th. Since it is a photo program we will remind of the past and apprehend the present through images. Images must not always be visible to the eye. There are those that we hear by our ears or see in the eye of our memory. Fred Jussi has amassed sound images and an abundance of remembered images and generously shares them with us.

Tiit Leito photographed and collected a thorough slide show introducing Matsalu more than fifteen years ago. Constant showing in the bright light of the slide projector has made the film fade and changed the colours of the photos. Just for the festival Arne Ader restored and digitalized this historically valuable series of photos. We will also show the new multimedia program compiled by Arne that introduces the Matsalu national park now. Both authors will be there, we will also get an idea of what restoration of old slides involves.

The photo shows help to create the atmosphere of the festival. A splendid exhibition is shown at Penijõe Manor. This collective work by many authors presents two eagle species living in Estonia – the white-tailed eagle and the osprey. The birds are introduced by Urmas Sellis of the Eagle Club (Kotkaklubi). Several more exhibitions can be seen as always in the Lihula Manor and its granary.

On Saturday  presentations by the photographers continue. We have two foreign guests. Raimo Sundelin from Finland summarises his three trips to the Spitsbergen and presents his favourite spots in the Finnish archipelago. Agris Krusts  from Latvia reviews interesting locations at our southerly neighbour for animal and landscape photographers. The peculiarities of photographing fish is presented by zoologist and wildlife photographer Tiit Hunt. The dedicated observer of small things Urmas Tartes has been busy several years with searching life on snow. Many other animals besides the springtail  Entomobrya nivalis live there!

For the exhibitions and photo lectures no separate  tickets are needed. Arranger: RMK.
