The crested lark is still in place at Sõrve säär (01.10.2012)

Regardless of the hard wind an unexpectedly intense finch migration could be observed at Sõrve säär. During a few hours after sunrise more than 200 000 finches flew out to the sea, among them 185 000 chaffinches  (Fringilla coelebs),21 000 bramblings  (Fringilla montifringilla), 4500 siskins  (Carduelis spinus). But at  10 o’clock rain came and the migration stopped as if cut off by knife. Because of the hard wind and rain not much ringing could be done. Only 6 birds got rings on their legs, among them two late reed warblers  (Acrocephalus scirpaceus). Among more interesting birds today at Sõrve säär a rock pipit (Anthus petrosus) was noteable, and the crested lark (Galerida cristata)  that had been in place for a quite long time was there too as before.

Such winged things can be seen at Sõrve säär too. Who knows when the first fighter on low-altitude flight meets with a goose flock and tumbles down? In the peak migrating period and a prime migrating area flying could  be a little higher up (01.10.2012)
