Raven nest in pine
Raven Ronk or kaaren Corvus corax
Winter and frosty nights go on. In the forest even a snowdrift still carries a full-grown man.
But despite the weather, time is so far advanced that the raven females have eggs in the nests. When there are two or three eggs in the clutch the female starts incubating although some eggs will be added in the beginning of the incubation period. In the pair’s territory the male is now busy on his own, he feeds the female during the incubation and patrols the family territory. Three weeks of incubation, in this changeable weather, and in the first week of April eggs may already hatch in some nests.
Our nesting population is four to six thousand pairs of ravens. On the white-tailed eagle feeding ground we also see ravens sparsely. The winter visitors from north and north-east have mostly left for their territories.
