Raised bog with wolves

 

Wolf numbers have fluctuated over the last 10 years to a quite large extent. While in 2003 we had less than ten litters of wolves then in 2008 and 2011 they were more than thirty. Last year, that is in 2012, they were 22, of whom four groups lived partly on Latvian territory. Last autumn thus we may have had a total of about two hundred individual wolves. At the moment information on this year’s breeding success, and the number and location of litter groups is still very patchy. It cannot be very good yet, because the breeding wolves are still relatively stationary. On the basis of last year’s data it might be predicted though that this year the number of wolves may have decreased even more. We hope however that it will not be lower than the recommended minimum of 15 litters  in the activity plan for large predators.
