Young female wolf quenches her thirst and continues her journey to find a shady resting place before the start of a hot day. Soomaa National Park
High temperatures and hot air are still present. As a result, main ditches by bogs, far beyond forests, have lost most of their water, because of the heat. Areas, which normally have plenty of water throughout the year, or at least have mud up to knees, have now been turned into solid ground by the drought. This is gladly used by nearby predators, large and small, who prefer to move along a solid track, instead of making their way in half-a-meter high vegetation on the sides of brooks. Therefore, all sort of river banks and sides of brooks are excellent places for studying tracks in this time of drought.
