The fruit bodies of the glossy Ganoderma or Lingzhi mushroom are brightly orange-red coloured, they have a glossy skin and a foot often attached to the edge of the cap. It is a fairly rarely occurring species in Estonia, it occurs, but seldom, in north-eastern and south-eastern Estonia.
Glossy Ganoderma grows mainly in fresh boreal forests and bog forests where it occurs on the stumps of black alder and downy birch, less frequently on fallen trunks. Sometimes host trees can also be silver birch, ash, oak or spruce.
It is an indicator species of primeval forests and key biotopes.
