Birdwatching days on weekend

On October 5th-6th the international birdwatching days, Birdwatch2013, will take place, arranged for the 20th year already. The aim is to focus interest on birds in the peak autumn migration period as well as on the richness of life around us. Taking part in the birdwatching days is very easy, you only need to watch birds. It can be done on a longer birdwatching trip, or in one’s own home garden or even from a window. In several places in Estonia the Estonian Ornithological Society offers you the opportunity to join guided bird trips free of charge.

As summaries are made of the results of the watching days in Estonia as well as internationally please note your observations and forward them to the Ornithological Society. Only the birds that the observer knows should be noted, but even crows and great tits. Please try to estimate the approximate number of encountered birds for each species. For forwarding results an easy-to-use on-line observation form is available this year thanks to the volunteer work of 5D Vision OÜ.

If you don’t have an Internet connection please send the observation list by post, address Veski 4, 51005 Tartu.

To make the first preliminary summaries we look forward to your results already on Sunday, at 15 o’clock at the latest. If that is not possible please send your observations not later than October 11th.

Information about the birdwatching days and birdwatching trips, and the online observation forms are on the home page of the Estonian Ornithological Society:

A quick summary of the birdwatching days will be published on Sunday at 18 o’clock.
