Congratulations to the Ornithological Society!
This year 16 projects were entered in the contest Environmental Award of the Year 2013. For the first time they were also put up to public vote. The greatest number of public votes were given to the project ”Winter garden bird watch” of the NGO Estonian Ornithological Society.
The Estonian Ornithological Society also earned the Environmental Award of the Year title last year.
It is the largest Estonian citizen science event. In 2013 2501 observers took part. In the winter garden bird watch participants must find one hour of time during the last weekend in January, go out into the garden or a park, and record the bird species seen there.

In a brief conversation yesterday with the parties involved we realised that the term used so far, kodanikuteadus (literally citizen science) seems somewhat awkward in Estonian (compare to citizen science or crowd science, crowd-sourced science, civic science, or maybe networked science).
Rahvateadus, folk science, sounds a little better. Please consider possible expressions, and send us your suggestions.
